The "Newest" DilutionsNewDilutions exists to investigate color dilutions that cannot (YET) be explained by conventional equine color genetics. It recently took on another function : that of explaining and tracking (somewhat) the previously "unknown new dilutions" which are now known as Pearl.
This site has been restructured, due to last year's earth-shaking (to us!) developments in the equine color genetics world. If parts of it seem redundant or disjointed, the webmaster would appreciate some help. <smile>
THE LATEST NEWS: PEARL in GYPSY HORSESThe newest dilution gene discovered, "Pearl", not only occurs in horses descended from My Tontime (granddam of Barlink Macho Man), Andalusians, Lusitanos, and Pasos, but has also been confirmed to exist in the breed(s) known as Gypsy Horses.http://www.vgl.ucdavis.edu/service/horse/coatcolor.html#pearldilution Older news: Congratulations and kudos to the members of newdilutions@yahoogroups.com, Carolyn Shepard, Dr. Cecilia Penedo at UCDavis, and all of you other equine color researchers and horse owner/breeders who worked to identify, name & rename this amazing, elusive, recessive and cream-activated gene.
If you wish to have complete documentation of your horse's color (breeding) potential, you should have your horse DNA tested for as many color genes as he/she could possibly have. This lab does every available test:
